PUBLIC INFORMATION RELEASE #2

Winter Weather Event Information

  1. Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Law Enforcement operations continue throughout the county without interruption.
  2. Moore County Governmental Office are closed on Friday, January 22, 2016
  3. Moore County Transportation Services will not operate
  4. The Moore County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated to manage the overall storm response and recovery efforts.  The telephone number to reach the EOC for assistance is 910-947-6317.
  5. Please do not call the EOC to report power outages, get road conditions or to arrange transportation to or from work.
  6. On Thursday, January 21, 2016, Moore County Department of Social Services and Health Department opened an emergency public shelter beginning at 9:00 pm. for those without power or heat due to the storm.

  1. On Friday, January 22, 2016, Moore County Department of Social Services and Health Department will open an emergency public shelter beginning at 10:00 am for those without power or heat due to the storm.

Shelter Rules and Regulations:
                               i.   Children under 18 years of age with the exception of emancipated minors must be accompanied by an adult when entering the shelter and remain in the custody of the guardian during their stay.
                              ii.   Residents are instructed not to bring alcohol, drugs, guns or other weapons, “boom boxes”, radios, TVs, or perishable goods. Law enforcement will have the authority to search bags and confiscate any items brought into the shelter.
                            iii.   Residents utilizing public shelter spaces are instructed to bring medications, blankets, special foods/formulas for children, and a supply of food for personal consumption.
                             iv.   Public shelters should be considered “shelters of last resort” with very basic provisions for a safe, dry, warm environment to include a cot for sleeping and limited meal capabilities.
