..WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
4 AM EST SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR A LIGHT ACCUMULATION OF SNOW...WHICH IS IN
EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 4 AM EST SATURDAY.

* LOCATIONS AFFECTED: ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM ALBEMARLE...
  TO SOUTHERN PINES...TO LILLINGTON...TO SMITHFIELD...TO
GOLDSBORO. THIS INCLUDES THE TRAID...TRIANGLE...AND ROCKY MOUNT
  WILSON AREAS.

* PRECIPITATION TYPES: THE PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN AS LIGHT RAIN OR
A MIX OF LIGHT RAIN AND SNOW THIS AFTERNOON...THEN TRANSITION TO
MAINLY OR ALL SNOW BY THIS EVENING.

* ACCUMULATION: A SWATH OF ONE TO TWO INCHES OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED
ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA...BUT THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A NARROW
CORRIDOR OF LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE VICINITY OF US HIGHWAY
  64.

* TIMING: THE PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN IN THE WESTERN AND SOUTHERN
NORTH CAROLINA PIEDMONT BETWEEN 2 PM AND 5 PM...THEN INCREASE IN
INTENSITY AS IT SPREADS EASTWARD ACROSS THE TRIANGLE AND
SURROUNDING AREAS BETWEEN 5 PM AND 9 PM...AND INTO THE COASTAL
PLAIN BETWEEN 7 PM AND 11 PM. SNOW WILL THEN TAPER OFF FROM WEST
TO EAST BETWEEN 9 PM AND MIDNIGHT OVER THE WESTERN HALF OF THE
ADVISORY AREA...AND BETWEEN 1 AM AND 4 AM OVER THE EASTERN HALF.

* IMPACTS: TEMPERATURES IN THE 40S TODAY WILL CAUSE ROADS TO
REMAIN MAINLY WET INITIALLY. HOWEVER...A SLUSHY ACCUMULATION OF
SNOW WILL OCCUR ON ROADS WHEN TEMPERATURES FALL TO AROUND OR
JUST ABOVE FREEZING WHILE THE MAJORITY OF THE PRECIPITATION...IN
THE FORM OF SNOW...FALLS THIS EVENING. ONCE THE PRECIPITATION
TAPERS OFF...TEMPERATURES WILL DIP INTO THE MIDDLE AND UPPER 20S
AND CAUSE THE SLUSH AND ANY WATER TO FREEZE SOLIDLY. A SLIPPERY
MESS OF FROZEN SLUSH...SNOW...AND BLACK ICE WILL MAKE TRAVEL
  TREACHEROUS TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...OR
FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR
SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE
DRIVING.
