Westmoore Fire District Receives New Class 7/9E Insurance Rating After Inspection
Carthage – Moore County Fire Marshal Ken Skipper, along with the North Carolina Department of Insurance and State Fire Marshal Wayne Godwin, announced today that the Westmoore Fire District will receive a Class 7/9E insurance rating. This new rating will be effective Monday, October 1, 2012. The new rating is the result of an inspection conducted by officials with the North Carolina Department of Insurance - Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) as part of the Response Rating System (NCRRS). Among othe r things, the inspections look for proper staffing levels, sufficient equipment, proper maintenance of equipment, communication capabilities and availability of a water source.
The NCRRS rating system ranges from one (highest) to 10 (not recognized as a certified department by the state), with most rural departments falling into the 9S category. While lower ratings do not necessarily indicate poor service, a higher rating does suggest that a department is overall better equipped to respond to fires in its district. High ratings can also significantly lower homeowner’s insurance rates.
The new Class 7 rate, effective October 1, 2012, applies to all property within five road miles of the Westmoore Fire Station located at
1211 Dover Church Rd. The 9E rating applies to property between five and six miles fromthe fire station.
