FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FREE COMMUNITY HOME SAFETY TRAINING EVENT
FREE SMOKE ALARMS AVAILABLE WITH TRAINING
In partnership with Moore County Public Safety, North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministry (NCBAM), Sandhills Baptist Association, and the Office of State Fire Marshal, a FREE community training event will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Rick Rhyne Public Safety Center located at 302 South McNeill Street, Carthage, NC 28327.
Because the aging are at greater risk to be killed or injured in a house fire, the involved agencies share a passionate goal to reduce accidental death and injury rates for adults in North Carolina. The purpose of the training session is to educate participants in addressing the home safety needs of aging adults who live at home. THIS TRAINING IS OFFERED TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS OR GROUPS.
Participants who attend all three sessions will be provided up to 10 free smoke alarms to be installed by the participants.
SESSION 1: Grab bars, Red bags, Yellow Dot program and Safe at Home Checklists.
SESSION 2: Fall and Fire Prevention Strategies
SESSION 3: Smoke Alarm Education
The training will be conducted by OSFM personnel and will include:
Smoke alarm education
Smoke alarm safety messaging
Guidelines for installation
Information on type of alarms used
Instructions for completing installation reports
A light lunch will be served courtesy of the Sandhills Baptist Association.
Fire alarms will be distributed first to those who have registered. Register by emailing sandhills@sandhillsbaptist.org or by calling 910/947-2238. Registration ends March 10, 2014.
Attendees will receive free state-of-the-art 10 year lithium battery smoke alarms to install in the home of aging adults and others in need. Attendees should come with an idea of how many alarms they plan to install and an idea of who the recipients will be (church members, neighbors, community outreach, etc.). Installers will be required to obtain a signed waiver from each recipient and also complete an installation report for each home they serve. When forms are returned to NCBAM, installers will be eligible to receive additional alarms.
