PUBLIC INFORMATION RELEASE #2

Moore County Government and the Moore County Chapter of the American Red Cross will open the following public shelter beginning at 2:00 pm. 

Location Name:            Southern Middle School
Address:                        515 Johnson St. in Aberdeen, NC.
Shelter Type:                 Companion Animal (Pet Friendly Shelter)

Shelter Rules and Regulations:

Ø     Children under 18 years of age with the exception of emancipated minors must be accompanied by an adult when entering the shelter and remain in the custody of the guardian during their stay.
Ø     Residents are instructed not to bring alcohol, drugs, guns or other weapons, “boom boxes”, radios, TVs, or perishable goods. Law enforcement will have the authority to search bags and confiscate any items brought into the shelter.
Ø     Residents utilizing public shelter spaces are instructed to bring medications, blankets, special foods/formulas for children, and a supply of food for personal consumption.
Ø     Public shelters should be considered “shelters of last resort” with very basic provisions for a safe, dry, warm environment to include a cot for sleeping and limited meal capabilities.
Ø     This will be a Companion Animal or Pet Friendly Shelter.  Animals will be maintained in a separate wing of the facility by Moore County Animal Operations staff.  Pet owners should bring their pet’s crate, food, bowls, medications, bedding, toys, etc.
o       Dogs, cats, birds and hamsters / gerbils are allowed.
o       Spiders, snakes, exotics, etc. are not allowed.
