Winter Weather Event Information

  1. Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Law Enforcement operations continue throughout the county without interruption.
  2. National Guard resources will be available to assist stranded motorist and transport storm victims and staff to the shelter.
  3. The Moore County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated to manage the overall storm response and recovery efforts.  The telephone number to reach the EOC for assistance is 910-947-6317.
  4. Moore County Department of Social Services and Health Department will open an emergency public shelter in Carthage for those without power or heat due to the storm beginning at 6:00 pm.

Shelter Rules and Regulations:
    1. Children under 18 years of age with the exception of emancipated minors must be accompanied by an adult when entering the shelter and remain in the custody of the guardian during their stay.
    2. Residents are instructed not to bring alcohol, drugs, guns or other weapons, “boom boxes”, radios, TVs, or perishable goods. Law enforcement will have the authority to search bags and confiscate any items brought into the shelter.
    3. Residents utilizing public shelter spaces are instructed to bring medications, blankets, special foods/formulas for children, and a supply of food for personal consumption.
    4. Public shelters should be considered “shelters of last resort” with very basic provisions for a safe, dry, warm environment to include a cot for sleeping and limited meal capabilities.
    5. This is not a Companion Animal or Pet Friendly Shelter. Animals will be transported and cared for at the Moore County Animal Operations Center.
  1. Please do not call the EOC to report power outages, get road conditions or to arrange transport to or from work. Our transportation resources are reserved for mission critical shelter staff, medical patients, and storm victim’s access to the shelter.
  2. Please contact the NC Department of Transportation at 910-947-2233 or your local municipal Public Works Department concerning road clearing operations.
