Hurricane Irma is just off the coast of Florida and has showed weakening to a category 4 storm.  The storm continues to take a westward turn. This will decrease the possibility of impacts to Moore County.  Hurricane Irma could possibly bring damaging winds, power outages, heavy rains, flooding and even tornadoes. Moore County Public Safety urges residents stay alert to the weather conditions, make a plan and put together an emergency supplies kit to provide the tools needed to survive the storm and recover from it.

Moore County emergency officials encourage residents to sign up for the free Emergency Notification System on the Moore County webpage at www.moorecountync.gov.  The Emergency Notification System offers free severe weather notifications and updated situational awareness of emergencies that occur within your communities. Follow us on our webpage at www.moorecountync.gov, Facebook at Moore County Public Safety and Twitter at @moorecountyps for updates.

Stay informed during this potential severe weather event by using a NOAA battery-powered weather radio.

Moore County Governmental Departments continue to monitor the storm and all sheltering staff have been placed on stand-by.  If conditions warrant, shelters will be opened as needed.  Sheltering information will be posted on the county webpage, Facebook, Twitter and sent to local media.

Families should have their emergency kit ready to go at all times with enough non-perishable food and bottled water (1 gallon per person per day) to last three to seven days. Kits also should include:
Copies of insurance papers and identification sealed in a watertight plastic bag
        First-aid kit
In-home oxygen-dependent patients should contact oxygen supplier to have supply to last 72-96 hours
        Weather radio and batteries
        Supply of prescription medicines
        Bedding
        Changes of clothes
Hygiene items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and deodorant
        Cash or checkbook
Be sure to review and update your homeowners' or renters’ insurance policies to make sure they include coverage for accidental damage, natural disasters and, if necessary, flood insurance.
