Malachi Ivey was born at about 3 in the afternoon at Moore Regional Hospital , but shortly after he was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after being intubated by doctors because he wasn’t breathing on his own. Malachi’s body temperature was lowered prior to being airlifted to help prevent any further brain damage. The Iveys (Michael a Paramedic for Moore County , and Audrey a former police officer) spent over a month in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Chapel Hill while Malachi fought harder than most of us could ever imagine. Initially Audrey and Michael were getting messages of little hope for Malachi’s future from doctors, but science, hope, and prayer are amazing! Eventually the family was finally able to take their new addition home where little Peyton Ivey, Michael and Audrey’s nearly 2 year old daughter, and Cameron, Michael’s 8 year old son, were anxiously awaiting their homecoming. The Ivey’s are no ordinary family; they are in fact a bit super human in some of our eyes. Those of you who aren’t in Emergency Services need to understand that we are like one giant family for better or for worse, and helping each other is something we just do….So…….
