Specifically, IEMC training places emphasis on community response and short-term recovery issues, and a disaster scenario is tailored to fit the community. Course methodologies include classroom instruction, planning sessions, and situation exercises allowing for structured decision-making in learning, yet realistic, environment. A key outcome of IEMC is to provide participants with the confidence and ability to carry out their respective functions related to disaster response and assist with making the transition from response activities to short-term recovery. These actions allow the community to be better for long-term recovery, should disaster occur.
Among the participants will be city and county elected and appointed officials. Some attendees will include County Manager, Assistant County Manager, Finance Director, Public Information Officer, legal counsel, Economic Development Director, County Mitigation Officer, County Emergency Management Director and staff, Fire Marshal, Hospital representative, and Airport representative. Additionally, upper and mid-management personnel, including supervisory, operational, and communications/dispatch staff are selected from fire service, law enforcement, public works, emergency medical services, the Red Cross, the Schools and College systems.
Everyone will finish with a better understanding of respective roles and responsibilities in order to be prepared for emergency operations response to multiple hazards that may threaten Moore County .
